Fix Your Slice – Day 3

Today’s lesson is all about grip pressure.

Many golfers have a tendency to grip the club too tightly. This creates the illusionĀ of more control and power, but actually robs you of both distance and accuracy, and often leads to the dreaded slice.

Fix Your Slice - Grip Pressure

Too tight grip pressure prevents the club from fully releasing through impact

Too tight of a grip pressure prevents the clubhead from fully releasing through impact.

This means the hands move through impact before the clubhead (as seen in the image to the left), and the club face is open at impact.

Here’s a good way to think about it…

Imagine your grip pressure on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being barely holding on and 10 being a death-grip. You should feel like your grip is at a 3-4 when you swing.
