Escape the Bunker – Day 4 of 7

Welcome to Day 4 of “7 Days to Escape the Bunker” series. I really appreciate all the emails we’ve gotten and I’m glad that so many of you are enjoying the videos!

OK in this 4th lesson we are going to talk about your wrist hinge.

One of the most common mistakes I see is golfers not using enough wrist hinge on their bunkers shots.

If you don’t hinge the wrists enough, your club will approach the ball on too shallow of a swing path, which can lead to all sorts of mishits.

When you come in too shallow it is easy to make contact with the sand too far behind the ball, and end up hitting it fat (the dreaded leave the ball in the bunker).

Paradoxically, coming in too shallow can also cause you to hit the ball thin, because your club doesn’t dig into the sand enough. This can lead to the skulled shot that flies over the back side of the green.

Remember it’s all about controlling how much sand you take from the bunker…

But even when you do get the right amount of sand, too shallow of an angle tends to produce a lower shot with less spin, which makes it harder to control and harder to get those up-and-down sand saves.

The way to get the proper angle of attack is to have the proper wrist hinge. Watch this video from the Perfect Impact System and learn more about the proper wrist hinge in the bunker!

neat geometric apprach to explain why I either top and hit nothing or sccop and hit way over the gree. I have been taught to hit the sand but not with this successful attack angle IT worked
